Beeswax and bone sculpture. 2016.
Jinn Tantric (Lust Demon)
Beeswax and bone sculpture 2016.
Catching up with blogging this one, the piece has already sold.
Thank you yet again to Susan, Cobweb Designs Gallery and the lovely people who purchased my Masked Belle, Pony Play Fairy, Fallen Fairy, and Raven Hexen.
My Beeman paid me a visit yesterday with a new batch of perfect leatherwood wax, so I'll be filling the spaces in the gallery soon with new work.
More thanks. Once again to Cobweb Designs, and to the local gentleman who purchased a Fallen Fairy, and my little scorpion tailed Jinn.
Also a shout out to locals--I'm suffering from an acute bone shortage at the moment. I'm looking for the usual small animal bones, and also any bird skulls, wings or avian bones/remains. If you know me, contact me, if not, all bones gratefully accepted if you just drop them off at Cobweb Designs, Cygnet.
Thank you once again to all the people who have purchased my art recently. A Hexen, Jinn Demon (Tantric) and the Queen of the Djinn: Lilith, on her throne, have all left Cobwebs Designs bound for new homes. :)
Had a surreal trip into town with newest sculpture, Fallen Angel, Demeter. I decided to take her in three pieces, and assemble her outside Cobweb Designs Gallery.
I'll be working on her this Cygnet Sculpture Trail/Easter weekend.( http://www.handmadeincygnet.com/)
So if you are in town, and want to smell some real leatherwood beeswax, and see me sculpting with the bees, drop past.
Art is an uncomfortable obssession. So it turns out this one didn't like the horns, and now tells me she's not a jinn, but a fallen angel, and actually Demeter. She's big, but not as big as Venus, and will have vines trailing over her. I'm putting on her legs, working out the balance of weight, and all the difficult stuff. Aiming to get her installed outside Cobweb Designs by the Sculpture Trail/Easter weekend. Endless polishing of the wax by scraping, bloody hours of it. I'm like the potato-mountain building dude in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, totally, ridiculously obssessed. And I won't be able to rest until she's installed. Then I'll go back to making the little ones again, for a while...
I haven't been able to settle on making any small sculptures lately. No use fighting the urge, looks like I'm making another life sized sculpture instead. This one will be a horned jinn. I've put out a call to locals to source ram and goat skulls for the horns, so if you are local, and can help me, please email me via my contact page.
This sculpture incorporates a lot of very rich leatherwood wax from my new Beeman (and no, I won't share him, so don't ask :)). I tend to work more at night to avoid the bees, and wasps, but can't always resist, so it's an apply wax, then dash away for a bit, while the bees swarm, kind of operation. I also have to watch out for my dogs who nab good bones from my work bench while my back is turned.
As usual this sculpture is pushing me hard to make her, telling me exactly what she wants, and how she wants it, so she's coming together pretty quickly at this point. We'll see, but I suspect I'll be busy for a while.
